The Audubon Ballroom stands as a symbol of resilience and remembrance. Once marked for demolition, the site was saved through the tireless advocacy of grassroots organizations and Dr. Betty Shabazz, who envisioned the space as a living memorial to Malcolm X and a permanent reminder of the African-American struggle for equity.

Visitors to the restored Ballroom can immerse themselves in the stories of Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz through historically accurate murals, sculptures, and exhibits. Each detail, from the bronze statue of Malcolm X to the multimedia presentations, reflects Dr. Shabazz’s meticulous efforts to preserve the integrity of this historic space.

Today, the Ballroom serves as more than a memorial; it is a hub for education, cultural programming, and youth leadership development, continuing the fight for social justice that began within its walls.
