Over the years, The Shabazz Center has hosted a series of impactful gatherings honoring Malcolm X’s life and legacy. Through reflection, celebration, and collective action, we honor Malcolm X by bringing people together to engage with his message and carry it forward.
The Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial & Educational Center hosted a vibrant 61st Commemoration of the Life and Legacy of El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, Malcolm X, filling the historic Audubon Ballroom with joy, remembrance, and renewed purpose. The evening featured powerful reflections from members of the Shabazz family alongside distinguished guest speakers including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, faith leaders, scholars, and community organizers who lifted up Malcolm X’s global impact and the living legacy of Dr. Betty Shabazz.
Dynamic performances by poets, musicians, and youth artists energized the crowd, transforming the space into a festive celebration of Black culture, resilience, and liberation. Together, guests applauded, sang, and stood in solidarity, leaving inspired to carry Malcolm X’s messages of truth, dignity, and justice into the work of today. Event photos from this uplifting commemoration will be available on this site soon.
